“He that can have patience can have what he will.” Benjamin Franklin
On the 26th of April the verdict was announced that the 96 Liverpool fans had unlawfully died at Hillsborough in 1989. Personally I don’t follow football much, only knowing that Leicester won the Premier League this year, the Hillsborough Disaster is about much more than football, it is about justice, patience and determination.
The families of the victims have been fighting for 27 years to finally get justice for their children, partners, parents and friends. The raw grit and persistence of these people is only to be admired by all, regardless of what team you support. They were fighting what seemed a losing battle, yet in the face of adversity nothing deterred them from their goal. No matter what setbacks they faced, no matter what they were called or viewed as, they kept going. The strength of their characters and determination is something we should all try and emulate in our everyday lives.
Thankfully I have not had to endure what they have, but their determination and belief inspires me. We should all remember the true grit of these people and remember that anything is possible. Everyone has challenges - exams. interviews, relationships - but instead of ignoring these problems we should face them head on, no matter how impossible they may seem. Don’t be scared of making mistakes as this is how you learn in the future and importantly never give up.
