Sport

At The Queen’s Lower School, PE plays an integral part of school life. We believe that fitness and sport are for everyone to benefit from and offer many different sports both in lessons and as part of our extensive co-curricular programme. Through personal success and encouragement, pupils develop a lifelong interest in physical activity and adopt a positive attitude towards their own and others' participation. They also learn the importance of teamwork, resilience, and having the confidence to try new things.

Expert-Led PE Lessons

All lessons are taught by PE specialists, providing an outstanding level of expertise and enthusiasm to engage all pupils. The variety of activities includes Gymnastics, Netball, Hockey, Rounders, Tennis, Athletics, Football, and Cricket, alongside specific athlete development units.

Weekly Swimming Lessons

Swimming

In addition, pupils will receive swimming lessons each week, provided by our specialist swim staff. Through a well-balanced curriculum, Queen's offers challenge, competition, and confidence whilst developing teamwork and physical fitness skills.

Regular Sporting Fixtures and Competitions

Sporting fixtures against other schools are regular events for pupils, with opportunities for all to represent the school. We are members of the Association for Junior Independent Schools (AJIS) and Chester Schools Sports Partnership, which offers a range of competitions, some of which lead to county representation. Friendly matches, competitive tournaments, and fun festivals make for a busy, yet exciting sports programme.

Vibrant House System

Finally, the House system is a vital ingredient to school life. Inter-House sports events take place every half term with Biathlon, Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Rounders, and Athletics events holding regular places in the school calendar. All pupils participate in these events, ranging from skills stations to earn vital team points to full matches and races—all with the aim of lifting the coveted House trophy and seeing your House ribbon placed around it. House events are more than just a sporting day but opportunities to compete, collaborate, and celebrate.

We are proud to have been awarded the School Games Gold Mark Award which is a Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.
