It may have been another turbulent year in education but the hard work and determination of girls at The Queen’s School in Chester means a year of outstanding A-level results.
Having witnessed first-hand last year how quickly situations can change, pupils at Queen’s knew they would have to work even harder to get the results they deserved to go on and achieve their dreams.
Almost 45% of results were the top A* grade with 80% A*-A. 57% of girls achieved straight A*/A grades at A-level or Distinction and almost 90% of the girls achieved 2A*/A grades.
The girl’s resilience, persistence, support of one another and sense of humour in the face of adversity, saw them deservedly celebrating a brilliant set of A-level and Pre-U results.
Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe said: “I am overjoyed for the girls on their wonderful achievements and they should feel very proud of their exceptional results. Not only have they given their all to get the grades they needed and wanted, they did so faced with uncertainty and stress. I think we can all learn something from this generation about facing adversity head on and then creating positive new and different ways of doing things. We will of course be continuing to support our girls looking ahead as our commitment to them doesn’t end at Year 13. Indeed we look forward to welcoming them back as alumni who can mentor and help the next generation of Queen’s girls. As always, our Head of Careers and Sixth Form team will also be here to provide advice and guidance regarding the next steps be it in their academic journey or future career.”
A proud day for the school as girls join a wide variety of courses at notable and sought after universities including two students heading to Cambridge to study Law and History. Almost all the girls who applied got into their first choice of university with almost 80% of this year’s cohort heading to Russell Group Institutions.
The range of exciting courses girls have chosen to go on to study this year include Accounting and Finance, Anthropology, Architecture, Business Management, Economics, Engineering, Film, Photography and Media, French and History, Geography, Historical Archaeology, Marine Biology, Marketing, Medicine, Modern Language Studies, Psychology, Religion, Politics and Society.
Many departments are delighted to see 100% of their students achieve A*/A or equivalent grades including Art, Classics, DT, Economics, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, Latin, Music, PE and Spanish. In addition, 95% of subjects achieved A*- B pass rate including Biology, Business Studies, Drama, Further Maths, History, Maths, Physics, Psychology and Religious Studies.
Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe continued: “We know that pupils can only thrive if they have purpose and a true sense of belonging in the world and I believe that Queen’s gives girls just that. Indeed they will remember the deep resilience they drew on to get through each day leading up to their exams and this period of adversity has reminded us that a sense of belonging and of feeling valued is more important than anything. At Queen’s this has really resonated true as we know we are connected to others and that we matter. We want our girls to develop themselves within an environment that supports individuals finding their feet, getting to know who they are and most importantly being happy with who they are.
“As teachers we are collaborating with each other and parents to educate the future citizens of an increasingly more connected and yet more diverse world. We take this great responsibility seriously and want our girls to emerge confident global citizens who are well rounded compassionate and resilient women ready to contribute to society.
“I must of course also thank each and every one of our dedicated teaching staff for their tireless support and effort during this entire process. We are fortunate that they are in the privileged position to know each individual student extremely well owing to our small class sizes, and the commitment they have shown in delivering an excellent education and by continually going above and beyond to ensure their pupils achieved their absolute best.”
