Queen’s Shine in Outstanding Production

The Queen’s School in Chester has once again raised the bar with an outstanding production of Six – Teen Edition, performed across three sell-out nights.

As an all-girls school, the show, by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, was a perfect fit, allowing pupils to embody the six powerful Queens in a musical that celebrates women’s voices and stories. The cast of 70 was supported by a dedicated team handling sound, lighting, costume, production, and front-of-house, collaborating to deliver a spectacular show.

Our six talented Ex-Wives captivated the audience with their stunning vocal performances, intricate choreography, and powerful drama as they each told the tale of their tumultuous marriages to Henry VIII to argue their case of whom had the hardest life. Their sassy humour, sharp wit, and commanding presence elevated the show to a level worthy of the West End.

Each Queen was accompanied by two ‘Ladies in Waiting,’ adding extra layers of support and glamour to their main numbers. The stage came alive with over 40 members of the chorus, adorned in ruffs, joining the Queens for the show-stopping ‘Ex-Wives’ and the high-energy ‘Haus of Holbein’, complete with UV lights and flashing glasses for an unforgettable electronic experience.

Mrs. Davies, Head of Music, shared her pride: “I am so proud of all the cast, crew, and staff who have worked tirelessly over the last six months to bring this show to life at such a high standard. The level of commitment and passion from everyone involved has been incredible, and it’s a joy to work with a group of girls who constantly support and encourage each other to produce such high-quality events. The choreography from Mrs. Walker and the technical support from Mrs. Broome and Mrs. Rushforth were instrumental in making this production a success.”

Mrs. Larder, Head of Drama, added: “The professionalism and talent displayed by our cast and crew made this technically demanding production a pleasure to be a part of. Special thanks go to Gwen in Year 8 for her brilliant photography and Annabelle in Year 12 for her superb programme design. The energy and camaraderie that filled the Hall on performance nights, with pupils from all year groups working together, was truly inspiring. Go Queens!”

Children from local primary schools also got the opportunity to enjoy the show after being invited to enjoy the matinee performance.

The success of Six – Teen Edition is a testament to the extraordinary teamwork, talent, and dedication of our pupils and staff. It was a production that will be remembered for years to come.
