From the sublime to the gory - that was the experience of sixth formers who headed to London this week for an academic and culturally enriching visit.
The trip took in a huge range of events and attractions, ranging from a leading psychology conference to a visit to St Paul's Cathedral to a walking tour of Whitechapel following the steps of Jack the Ripper himself.
Pscyhology pupils from both Year 12 and Year 13 enjoyed the chance to hear and question Professor Chris French and Professor Elizabeth Loftus. Chris French spoke about the reliability of published psychological report and Elizabeth Loftus spoke about her groundbreaking research into false memory. She has worked as a trials of OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson and Harvey Weinstein as an expert in the accuracy of memory and is recognised as the most influential female psychologist of all time.
The students later went on to visit the Freud Museum where the founder of psychoanalysis lived during his time in London.
Pupils were also wowed by the awe-inspiring grandeur of St Paul's on a tour taking them from the depths of the crypt and ultimately to the top of the dome for some spectacular views. In the evening of the two day visit they needed strong stomachs to hear about the ghastly details of Jack the Ripper's killing spree, especially as it was shortly after a visit to the Hard Rock Cafe for their evening meal.
On the final day, the group took in the Treasures Room of the British Library, the British Museum and finally some shopping at Covent Garden.
And the group even caught a glimpse of broadcaster Louis Theroux biking his way through London traffic on his way to make his next documentary!
Year 13 student Emily Harries said: 'The highlight for me was the views of the city from the top of St Paul's and the weather was also great!'
