Our Spanish department took a group of Year 8 and 9 students to Barcelona on a 6-day trip to experience Spanish culture and practice the language. During their visit, they had the opportunity to learn about Gaudi’s extraordinary masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia, and to admire the basilica of Monserrat, with its staggering views of the valley.
After a day exploring Barcelona’s colourful Rambla and Boquería market, the group was treated to an impressive live flamenco show at a traditional flamenco stage, where they were able to appreciate the energy and passion that characterise this traditional Spanish dance. There was time for thrills and spills during our visit to PortAventura theme park, which offered rides and entertainment to suit all.
Despite some early predictions of rain, the weather was fabulous and the girls were able to use the outdoor pool at our accommodation, which included slides as well as a wide lawn area and deck chairs where they could relax after swimming. A real treat! In addition, during their stay, the students tasted authentic Spanish food such as paella, tapas and chocolate con churros, and they impressed the locals with their Spanish language skills when completing a challenge in Vilanova town. ¡Fantástico!
