Reception and Year 1 had an enjoyable and engaging day at Beach School recently. Taking the curriculum to the coast, the girls were tasked with working collaboratively to achieve a novel solution; all whilst enjoying the benefits of fresh air and hearty physical endeavour!
The girls explored the shoreline before listening to a story about a maiden who was turned to stone by an evil magician. The tale continued with the maiden's friend saving the day by journeying to six castles in search of a key that would break the spell, making use of wishing stones throughout the story. The girls arranged themselves into groups and used any resources they could find to bring the story to life, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. They especially enjoyed the hot chocolate at the end of the day.
Our Beach School days are an extremely popular part of our outdoor learning programme at the Lower School. There is a wealth of learning opportunities beyond the confines of traditional classrooms and the dynamic coastal environment encourages exploration, curiosity, and a deep connection to nature. Through hands-on activities like scavenger hunts, tide pooling, and beach clean-ups, students develop not only academic skills but also vital life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
Ultimately, our Beach School programme inspires a lifelong love for learning, nature, and the world around us. As we take topics to the shoreline, the girls increase their knowledge and understanding, whilst importantly having lots of fun!
