Our Year 6 girls embarked on their eagerly anticipated trip to France, well-prepared from their French lessons at school. This trip, a cherished highlight marking the culmination of their Lower School journey, is something the girls look forward to with great excitement each year.
Staying at the charming Hotel de Moulin aux Draps, nestled in a verdant valley just outside the quaint market town of Desvres, the girls quickly settled into their rooms. They began their adventure with an engaging tour of the hotel grounds, setting the tone for a week filled with memorable experiences.
The week-long trip offered numerous opportunities for the girls to develop their French-speaking confidence, savor new cuisines, and immerse themselves in the vibrant French culture. Among the hands-on activities, the girls enjoyed bread-making, goat-milking, and crafting their own clay tiles. They also expanded their culinary horizons by tasting a variety of local delicacies, including escargot and a range of cheeses, and relished a delightful visit to a chocolaterie.
Excursions to the Nausicaa Aquarium in Boulogne, Le Touquet market, and the nearby beach stood out as highlights of the trip. Additionally, visits to the Etaples military cemetery and La Coupole provided poignant moments, particularly as it coincided with the 80th anniversary of D-Day, with the girls displaying immense respect for the fallen soldiers.
Throughout their adventure, the girls consistently impressed everyone with their manners and enthusiastic engagement in all activities. They worked and played brilliantly as a team, proving themselves to be an absolute delight to accompany on this journey.
The trip not only broadened their horizons but also fostered a deeper sense of camaraderie and cultural appreciation among the girls. It was truly a week of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences that will stay with them as they move forward in their educational journey.
