A number of pupils in Year 9 and Year 10 have been extending their skills outside the classroom in the Queen's Leadership and Enhanced Academic Programme - LEAP.
Launched last academic year, LEAP is a co-curricular club that gives girls the opportunity to develop and hone some of the key skills that will make them the leaders and forward thinkers of the future. Our new cohort of Year 9 LEAPers started off in pursuit of academic enrichment through the exploration of online learning and MOOCs. This will be followed by short courses in research skills, presentation skills, and getting ahead when preparing CVs and applications.
Our Year 10 LEAP cohort who started the programme last year will be focussing on leadership skills, academic discussion, emotional intelligence, and how to maximise high performance.
Year 9 have been given the task to complete research in teams and then each produce a presentation on a different style of leadership in the form of a newsflash. This includes researching the strengths and weaknesses of a given leadership style, along with an example of a real-world figure who uses this. They will perform their newsflash to the group to share their findings and this will be followed by them completing an individual leadership style questionnaire.
