Our recent Grrrl Power Writing Competition, which challenged local schoolchildren to produce 500 words with a strong female lead character, saw lots of entries.
Judging was undertaken by the Senior School English Department in conjunction with the National Youth Libraries' Group.
The standard of work was excellent and the most promising writers were invited to a special Writers' Workshop held at Queen's Senior School last week.
A day of story planning, writing, book jacket designing, drama and a talk with teacher Mrs Tunnicliffe about what it takes to become a published author followed, with prizes of an illustration of the winners' words by Little Wolf Illustrations.
Well done to all the shortlisted writers and especially to our winners:
Zara (Fairholme Preparatory School)
Lotus (Overleigh St Mary's Primary School)
Florence (Mickle Trafford Primary School)
Olivia (Overleigh St Mary's Primary School)
Olivia (Queen's Lower School)
We hope to read more of your work in next year's competition!
