We are so proud to find out that our very own Head of Careers Mrs Dawson has been awarded a Lord Lieutenant’s Commendation for Meritorious Volunteer Service for her work with the Combined Cadet Force.
Captain Julietta Dawson has been part of the CCF for many years, inspiring and leading many Queen’s girls who attend the section run at The King’s School.
CCF Contingent Commander Major Michael Lee submitted the following citation about her. Well done Julietta!
Capt Dawson joined the CCF with minimal military knowledge in 2014. She rapidly became a key volunteer within the organisation, taking responsibility for developing AT within the unit which, to that point, had been non-existent. She instigated a series of exciting activities for cadets which sparked the interest that led to many cadets gaining valuable AT skills and qualifications. She has championed the NNAS scheme and has given generously of her time to take over 100 cadets into the hills to gain their Bronze and Silver Awards.
Her dynamic leadership of AT within the Contingent was partnered with a desire to develop her military skills. The motivation for this was simple, she wanted to enable us to run more activities for the cadets. Capt Dawson is driven by a desire to help the cadets of the King’s School CCF develop in confidence, self-respect, and integrity. Several years on from this nascent desire to develop her military skills she was encouraged to take command of the Army Section. Despite the significant extra workload Capt Dawson accepted the appointment to allow her to further develop the opportunities open to her cadets.
Alongside her Cadet work Capt Dawson’s time is spent leading the DofE programme in her school, and mentoring students to develop high career aspirations. Her time commitment to the cadets is such that, in order to see more of her, her husband joined the CCF and he now contributes significantly too!
Capt Dawson lives and breathes the values and standards of the Cadet Force and is a fabulous role model for her cadets. She is hugely ambitious for the children in her care and wants them to experience the very best opportunities. She helps them to realise that they are capable of far more than they think; nurtures their self-confidence and talent; and develops them into leaders. Over the years there have been several cadets for whom she has been a strong constant in their lives during times of turmoil.
Capt Dawson’s contribution to the King’s School CCF has been huge. At an organisational level she leads a significant amount of the activities we offer. During training she is always ready to get stuck in, whether leading an expedition, supporting a section attack, making hotdogs, administering first aid, or driving a vehicle.
She is a phenomenal character and I warmly commend her for the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.
