Girls in Years 10 and 12 had the chance to network with higher education institutions as far afield as Canada, Europe and the USA when the School played host to a major International University Fair.
Staff from 16 worldwide universities set up stalls in the school hall for the event which introduced pupils to the opportunities for studying abroad at degree level. Institutions represented included New York University, Bocconi University in Italy, McGill University in Canada and some of the leading business and hospitality education providers in Switzerland.
There was huge interest from pupils at the afternoon event which coincided with an own clothes day making them very much look the part as 'undergraduates in waiting'. The event was part of a national roadshow tour set up by student support organisation The University Guys, aiming to promote the idea of international study among UK students.
UCAS application support
How to make the right university choices and write strong applications was the focus of the first two UCAS support sessions that have run for Year 12 girls this term.
Hannah Clark, from Cardiff University, launched the series of Wednesday afternoon sessions with a practical and highly informative guide on how to make the all-important choice of both course and university. She emphasised the Four C's - city, campus, course and career - in helping to navigate through this tough set of decisions in where candidates are faced with literally hundreds of higher education providers.
Girls were then helped through the Personal Statement writing process by Lynsey Johnston of Nottingham University, who set out some of the 'do's and don'ts' when trying to present yourself to university admissions teams.
It is key to be as specific as possible and always bring out the precise benefits you have gained from any reading you have done, lectures you have been to or extra curricular activities you might have been involved with. It is also vital to make what you are saying as relevant as possible to the course you are applying to.

The programme of sessions supports Year 12 pupils through the applications process and runs in Quest time for the rest of the year. Future talks include university study skills, student life and finance and also a further workshop session on personal statements.
