Queen's girls have been competing against some of the top schools in national hockey competitions and are still going strong in many of them.
The U16 team has qualified for its second National Final after being crowned North Indoor Champions. The girls went to the North Finals on a high last week after winning all their games at the North West round. They were favourites and feeling confident following the experiences and success from achieving National Finals in January 2019, and will now be back in 2020 after qualifying once again. In addition to this success the team have also been crowned Chester and District Champions, and still remain in the exciting knock out stages of the National Schools Hockey Championships, due to play Loughborough next week.
There also seems to be no stopping our U15 team who are through to the quarter-finals of the Independent Schools Hockey Cup after a superb win against Millfield, a school with a huge hockey reputation. The game was certainly the girl’s biggest challenge yet, but they went into it with confidence and were 2-0 up during the first half. The girls went on to win the game 3-2 and will now face Sedburgh before the February half term.
The U13 team is also flying high in the same competition, getting through to the quarter-finals after beating Newcastle 4-0.
In the National Schools Competition the U14 team are feeling proud after winning both their county and North West rounds, while the U18 team progressed to the North Finals after finishing second in the North-West. A fantastic achievement for this talented group of hockey players.
Head of Hockey Mrs Martine Green said: “Words cannot describe how proud I am of the achievement the girls have made already this year. To be playing teams like Millfield with such confidence and winning is a tribute to the hard work and effort these girls give me every day. This term we have been celebrating success across all the age groups and it is not over yet with two age-groups still progressing in the Independent Schools Cup and the Indoor Hockey National Finals in January.”
