In the face of adversity, girls at The Queen’s School are celebrating a superb set of A-level and Pre-U results.
30% of results were the top A* grade with 66% A*-A and 45% of girls achieving straight A*/A grades at A-level or Distinction.
Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe said: “Our girls have once again achieved a phenomenal set of results in what has been unprecedented times and undoubtedly extremely stressful for them. We know that if they had sat their exams, the results for some of them would have been even better but unfortunately the situation was out of our control. We will of course be supporting these girls in whatever way possible and appealing where appropriate to enable them to take the next big step in their academic journey or career.”
The school is waving girls off to a range of prestigious universities including students heading to Cambridge and the majority of girls studying at Russell Group Universities and their first choice institution. Five girls are off to study Law with three girls choosing to study Medicine. A range of other fascinating courses girls have chosen to study include Biological Sciences, Radiotherapy, Economics, Cyber Security, Anthropology, Modern and Medieval Languages, History, Psychology, Music, Modern Languages and Cultures and Filmmaking to name but a few.
A variety of departments are pleased to see 100% of students achieve A*/A or equivalent grades including Art, Classical Civilisation, Computing, Drama, Economics, PE and Latin. 13 subjects in total had a 100% A*-B pass rate including English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, Music and Business.
100% A*-B pass rate was also achieved by students taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) as part of The Queen’s School Baccalaureate programme, a unique part of the Sixth Form offering.
Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe continued: “At Queen’s we prepare the girls to go out into the world with confidence, enthusiasm and ambition - their global outlook means nothing is beyond their reach with hard work and the right attitude. I am so proud of what they have achieved but I am even more proud of the way they have reacted to the extraordinary circumstances of the year that has led us to where we are today. The disruption of their exams due to Covid-19, while upsetting, did not derail their focus to achieve their goals and our strong remote learning provision ensured they continued their studies. I want to thank each and every one of them for their maturity, hard work and determination to conclude their Queen’s education at the highest level. I look forward to welcoming them back in September for our traditional Michaelmas Supper as our newest alumnae.
“I would also like to thank each and every one of our teaching staff for continuing to make the Queen’s difference! They care about every individual student, providing a superb education and support and continually going above and beyond to ensure they achieve their absolute best.”
