Last weekend, 10 students from Years 10 and 13 took part in MUNHigh, the annual MUN conference hosted by Manchester High School for Girls, which this year took place on Zoom.
Representing Saudi Arabia, Hungary and Poland, the team included both first-timers and old hands. While we missed getting immersed in the hustle and bustle of a ‘real’ conference, it was thrilling to see so much enthusiasm among the students for keeping the momentum going!
Debates were of a high standard (and even the occasional joke resolution – always a favourite – was tackled with perceptive acumen), friendships were made between delegates and interest kindled in international affairs and global politics.
Representing Saudi Arabia in the Political Committee, Anoushka in Year 10 was awarded best young delegate and Mihika in Year 12 was highly commended representing Poland in the Human Rights Committee.
Mihika, who has a wealth of experience in MUN, said: “The best thing about MUN is the more you give, the more you receive, as longer research time means better supported speeches. At first participating in MUN might seem like additional work, but you will be surprised to learn about the numerous skills you acquire for life and the opportunity to socialise with other delegates.”
