The Queen's School emerged victorious at the recent Liverpool Hope University STEM Robotics Day!
Our Year 9 pupils had the incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in a day filled with hands-on STEM activities, designed to give them a taste of various popular disciplines and careers, including robotics, medicine, and forensics.
This event aimed to spark curiosity and passion for STEM subjects as well as encourage collaboration and teamwork, with our pupils working alongside peers from other schools. The girls who took part are those who will be taking on GCSE Computer Science next year, making this experience particularly enriching as they step into more advanced studies.
There was a winning team for each category and Mrs McKeirnan was delighted to witness the Queen's team walk away with the trophy in the Robotics category. They showcased exceptional skill in programming their LEGO Mindstorm robot. Their success was not only a testament to their technical abilities but also to their remarkable teamwork, which played a significant role in securing the win.
The value and importance of STEM is something we actively promote at Queen’s, empowering our pupils to excel in any field. It is pivotal in equipping our girls with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and innovative mindsets. By engaging in activities like the STEM Robotics Day, our girls are not only learning technical skills but also discovering how these skills apply in real-world contexts.
All-girls education offers a unique environment where pupils can thrive without the limitations of gender stereotypes.
Congratulations to our Year 9 team and Mrs. McKeirnan for this fantastic achievement! A great day was indeed had by all, and we look forward to many more successes to come.
