We are committed to preparing our pupils for the exciting paths that lie ahead. Our Year 10 Sixth Form Taster Week has been a perfect example of this commitment, offering our girls an insight into life in the Sixth Form at Queen’s. This special week included A-level taster sessions, an inspiring trip to Oxford University, a careers session, and the freedom to experience the perks of Sixth Form life.
Throughout the week pupils had the chance to experience a variety of A-level subjects. These taster sessions were designed to help them make informed choices about their future academic options with teachers delivering engaging lessons that not only provided a deeper understanding of each subject, but also showcased the university-style environment of our Sixth Form.
One of the highlights of the week was the trip to Oxford. A group of 22 girls set off for this prestigious institution, ready to soak in the history and grandeur of one of the world's most renowned universities. Their itinerary included visits to iconic landmarks such as the Radcliffe Camera, The Bridge of Sighs, and The Bodleian Library - a fascinating glimpse into the rich academic heritage of Oxford.
The girls were then given a comprehensive tour of Corpus Christi College and its picturesque grounds. This experience was followed by an engaging session with a Queen's School alumna who is currently studying at Oxford. It was a perfect opportunity for our pupils to ask questions and gain insights into what life is like at such a prestigious university. Informative and inspiring, the meeting highlighted the possibilities that lie ahead for each of them.
As part of the taster week our Year 10 girls also got a taste of the independence and privileges that come with being in the Sixth Form. They enjoyed the use of the Sixth Form block, wore their own clothes, and experienced the freedom to visit the city centre during lunch. This taste of autonomy was a welcomed addition to their week, providing a practical sense of what Sixth Form life is like.
The Sixth Form Taster Week is more than just a series of activities; it is an opportunity for our Year 10 students to explore new academic interests and gain confidence in their potential while considering their future. As they look ahead to their Sixth Form years, we are excited to see how these experiences will shape their aspirations and drive them to achieve their goals.
