Sport round-up

Swimming
The Year 6 swim team attended the 25th English Schools Swimming Association Primary Schools’ Team Championships in Sheffield at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. This year, ESSA also celebrate their 70th anniversary, which added to this momentous occasion.
Aster, Erin, Kate and Emily swam first in the medium schools mixed freestyle relay heats, narrowly missing the ‘A’ finals by one tenth of a second. However, they were through to the ‘B’ final and earned an impressive second place.
Next came the medium schools mixed medley relay. Aster swam backstroke, Followed by Alicia swimming breast stroke, then Kate doing butterfly and finally Emily finishing with front crawl. Again, narrowly missing ‘A’ finals meant they were in a comfortable position in the ‘B’ finals in which they finished third place.
It was a proud day for swimmers, parents and teachers to be at such a prestigious event. The effort and commitment of the girls paid off to get through the heats and achieve a place in the finals.

On Wednesday, Years 3 and 4 swim teams competed against Birkenhead in an all-girls gala. Both teams put in superb performances, resulting in comfortable victories.
Year 3 won 28-12
Year 4 won 56-24
The overall result including the Canon relay - 119 points to Queen's and 61 points to Birkenhead.
A really impressive result.

Esther and Ella were selected to compete for Cheshire in the Mason Trophy Inter County Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. The girls met up with alumna Evie who was also taking part in the event in which Cheshire placed 3rd out of 10 counties taking part.

A busy run of events for Megan in Year 8 who competed at The Trafford AC Grand Prix in Manchester. These events are always very competitive and attract many of the top runners from the North of England. Megan did really well in the Under 15 mixed boys and girls event with over 40 runners, achieving a new 800m PB time which was well inside the National Ranking qualification time for the event.

Megan and her teammates from West Cheshire AC also recently competed in the 3x 800m U15 Girls ‘Cheshire Athletics County Relay Championships’ in Crewe. After great performances from all three girls they came away with third place and the bronze medal in another competitive field of 16 teams from across the county.

The second innings really saw Queen’s come to life and the team managed to get all of the Birkenhead girls out by the 12th ball. Her team won their first round, had the fastest time of the day in the semi finals and were just pipped in the final in a very close race, but they were delighted with their 2nd place. Well done Leah!
