As MUN at Queen’s continues to go from strength to strength, 14 students headed to Stonyhurst College’s MUN conference in Clitheroe.
The team included 12 delegates, drawn from Years 10 and 11, representing Albania and the USA, as well as Sixth Form students Dora and Cora, who were invited to act as guest-chairs in the Political and Education Committees.
MUN offers so many benefits and opportunities, and this conference was no different. Over diplomatic negotiation and attempts to solve some pressing issues in international politics, horizons were broadened through thorough research, confidence was built in public speaking and polite but rigorous debate, values were cultivated such as open-mindedness, tolerance and appreciation of diversity, awareness was sharpened of inequality and ethical injustices and ways explored of rectifying them, and – last but not least - friendships were formed and deepened between like-minded students brought together by shared interests.
Year 11 students Zara and Elsie said: “Stonyhurst MUN was an amazing experience. Not only was it useful for building confidence and public communication skills, but also for making friends and feeling a sense of community within each committee.”
