As part of our University and Post 18 Applications Programme Head of Sixth, Mr Wilson, invited Ms Lily Waerden from the Aberystwyth University to speak to Year 12 pupils ahead of their visit to the Manchester UCAS Discovery Exhibition.
This annual event hosts over 100 Universities, over 20 top employers and our National Apprenticeship Service. With so much on offer, Ms Waerden talked pupils through how to make the most of the event, how to target their research and gain the latest advice and information on university courses and different career paths, whilst reminding them of the all important QR code on their entry tickets, used on each of the 144 stands to allow all the latest news such as on Open Days to be emailed directly to our pupils.
This year’s event was particularly well supported by employers such as KPMG, Goldman Sachs, Unilever, the Dyson Institute and the Armed Forces, meaning our pupils were able to talk about the degree apprenticeship route into work and ask about work experience and internships. There were also a number of desirable freebies on many stands!
Head of Careers Mrs Dawson, who led the trip to Manchester, said: 'Events like this are so valuable for sixth formers, giving them first hand experience of talking to future admissions tutors and employers, showing the vast range of options available to them to ensure they are in a position to make informed choices about the next stage of their education and career.
'Pupils could pick up first copies of this year’s prospectuses and attend talks on Social Sciences, Business, Medicine, and Sports and Student Finance. An extremely busy and informative day for all and one that I know the pupils found so valuable in this early stage of their next steps research.'
